The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has opened the latest round of its Hydrogen Innovation Fund, offering up to $30 million to support demonstration-scale hydrogen projects across Ontario.
The program focuses on advancing low-carbon hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. Funding is available under two streams:
Electricity System Integration – projects that integrate hydrogen into Ontario’s power system (e.g., peak-shaving, backup generation, or grid services).
Broader Energy and Sector Applications – projects that demonstrate hydrogen use in transportation, manufacturing, industrial processes, and local hydrogen hubs.
Eligible applicants include utilities, municipalities, industrial facilities, technology companies, and partnered consortiums. Projects must be pre-commercial demonstrations with clear measurable outcomes and the ability to advance Ontario’s clean-energy transition.
This intake is open until February 11, 2026, with selected projects beginning later in 2026.
Local businesses, manufacturers, fleet operators, and innovators in Richmond Hill and York Region who are exploring hydrogen technologies may find this program relevant. Full program details, eligibility requirements, and application materials are available through the IESO website.
